• Mattawa Ride – October 26, 2024

Our last organized ride for 2024 season. Myself Marcel Lafrenière as Ride Leader and with the help of Ride Tail Leon Paquin, we guided the Mattawa Ride on the  VMUTS Voyageur Multi Use System trails from the town of Mattawa towards North Bay and back to Mattawa in a circle. This 112 km track is classified a Level 3 ride which is a bit demanding. There was 7 ATV and 6 Side by Side. Many registered at the last minute on the website with the help of their cell phones to be covered by insurance which is covered by members fee of $32/year. • ATV riding away down a forest path

    Baie Jeanne – October 05, 2024

Another ride under our belt ! Ride Lead:  Marcel Lafrenière Ride Tail:  Leon Paquin   This was a beautiful sunny day with a cool morning start of O degrees Celsius warming to 15 degrees Celsius by the afternoon. The planned ride was towards Baie Jeanne and Cross lake region which are both southern branches of Lake Temagami. We met in the field near the church in River Valley for a 9 a.m. start. We were only 4 ATVs and 3 side-by-side, 10 people and a dog to accompany us. Before leaving I explain to the group that it is a Class 2, 100 km ride ahead of us. Asked that…

  • Holdridge Creek – July 20, 2024

Another club ride- completed Ride Lead: Rob Mineault Ride Tail: Ted Hargrave We were a smaller group we had 12 people show to the ride on a cloudy day, with potential for rain in the atfternoon. Slowly worked our way through the trail, we had one unfortunate ATV stall in the large water crossing – which this year was approximately 2-2.5 feet deep in some areas. They were towed for a little while and it was determined that no water had entered their engine.- just a itttle into the air box – restarted and had no further issues along the trail. There was one other slow down when the ride…

  • Rabbit Lake Ride 2024

    Rabbit Lake – May 25 2024

Had a great turnout to the first ATV ride for the club this year, we had 16 ATVs and 1 Side by Side show up to do the new Rabbit Lake 2024 ride. The ride started with some decent overcast weather, we started off at exactly 09h30 as predicted – although I think maybe we had some really anxious riders, I as the Lead showed up around 08h00 and there were already some people waiting to go….. We drove down Rabbit Lake Rd – the morning was to be approximately 60-70% road riding – was a little dusty near the end of the line from what I hear although I…

  • Baie Jeanne – 14 Oct, 2023

Saturday October 14, 2023 on a beautiful sunny day and a temperature of 14 celsius I guided the Sturgeon Falls ATV Club with my partner Leon Paquin on the trails towards Baie Jeanne and Cross Lake which are both branches south of Lake Temagami. We met in the field near the church in River Valley for a 9 a.m. start. There were 11 mountain bikers and 5 side by side, 21 people and a dog to accompany us. Before leaving I explained to the group that it is a class 2 and we have 100 km to do. Don’t forget to turn on your headlights for better visibility. The point…

  • Gull Lake – Sept 16, 2023

I Marcel Lafrenière guided the Gull Lake ride with the help of the tail Rob (Robert) Mineault last Saturday September 18, 2023 on a beautiful sunny day but a little chilly morning. We parked at the Blue Demon Lodge with the owner’s permission. We left at 9:45 (15 minutes late) and did the run in reverse order just because we had to be different haha. Actually when we scouted the trail a few weeks before we did it in reverse order by mistake but loved it better since we kept the more difficult section at the end of the day in case someone broke down. Just before getting to the…

  • Mountain View/ Mud Lake ride – Aug 26, 2023

On behalf of our ride chair, Phil Beauchamp, ride leader Rob Mineault and tail, Rheal Berichon, we would like to remind you of the upcoming Mountain View/ Mud Lake ride, next Saturday, August 26th. Once again the club had a great ride on Aug 26, 2023. We had a great turn out – despite the 2 week push for the ride, there were 7 ATVs, 3 side by sides, interestingly enough 2 were larger than the recommended 60 inches, although the largest which was a woping 65 inches did have a very experienced driver who showed the majority of us how to drive in tight corners. We did have to…

  • Yor-Pil-Bull Ride – July 29, 2023

The Yor-Pil-Bull ride on July 29th was real success.  We had 17 riders show up on 11 ATVs and 2 UTV.  We left the parking at 9:30 am a half hour later than planned.  We travelled 10 Km on the road to reach the trail, shortly after we entered the trail we had a breakdown.  One of the ATV had a charging issue, the rider did have a spare battery, replaced it and decided to return to his truck with  his friend.  So we lost 2 ATVs right at the beginning of the ride.  We crossed the first deep water hole shortly after that with no incidents.  We made our…

  • Holdridge Creek Ride July 8th, 2023

Holdridge Creek Ride July 8th, 2023 The weather was perfect for riding, not too hot and dry. Members really appreciated this because 47 riders on 11 side by sides and 24 ATV’s registered. A record for this ride. Because the line of bikes was so long, 2 guides with radios volunteered to help and were positioned in the line. Thanks Carl and Phil.  Unfortunately, one bike got a flat tire and had to return to the parking area via highway 64 and was guided there by Rob. At the water crossing some people did manage to get wet…..this was expected. Because of the short mechanical delay, the group had lunch…

  • Murray Lake Ride – June 17, 2023

Murray Lake Ride       June 17th, 2023 9 Atv’s and 6 side by sides showed up for a total of 18 riders. All were eager to get going on the first ride of the season. Passing the old Pine Falls Lodge, which is now a private set of cottages, you could see the drop in water levels between Murray Lake and Washagami Lake. This is being harnessed to develop electricity for those residents. Beyond this the going got rocky and rough but all made it through with little difficulty. The ride up to Kelly Lake for lunch was easy going but those who had gone there in the past were surprised…

  • Winter Ride / Sand dam Ride – Nov 05, 2022

Ride Lead: JC Brunette Ride Tail: Mike Labelle   The WNATV club hosted the annual “winter ride” on Nov 05, 2022, we had 12 ATVs, 8 SXSs and 28 souls attend. Was an unusually warm day for November, overcast most of the day and very lite sprinkle of rain very late in the ride. All told we traveled approximately 110kms. We stopped at the Tomiko Restaurant for a late lunch (food and service was awesome ) and made our way back to the staging area arriving before dusk. The ride was enjoyed by all, and brought an excellent close to this years riding season for the club. Hope to see you…

  • Baie Jeanne to Cross Lake

Ride Lead: Marcel Lafreniere Ride Tail: Rheal Berichon We left River Valley at 9:10 am with 28 members, a few guests, two dogs, 10 ATV and 7 side by side. Made a short stop at Baie Jeanne which is a south branch of lake Temagami, with plentiful fishing and a few wild camping spots.  After a short stop, we continued our trip towards Cross Lake. We bypassed the usual lunch stop at Iron lake and arrived at Cross lake below the dam at 12:05. That section is more scenic and with more space to park the ATV’s. On a very cold and windy day you can take cover behind the…

  • Kukagami to Estaire Ride Sept 10, 2022

A large group showed up for this ride on a hot dry day. There were 12 ATV’s, 7 SxS’s, and 27 riders. Probably the first time we had so many SxS’s. It turned out to be a dusty ride with the last part being exceptionally hard going. After a late lunch, it was decided to turn around and end the forward progress of the ride there. We were 15 km. from our destination. In all the ride was some 90 km. long. The group got back to the parking area by 4:15 PM. All tired, dusty and thirsty. It was nice to see so many members turn out. Al Giroux…ride…

  • Holdridge Creek Ride July 23, 2022

Barry Beauchamp…..lead Art Constantineau…..tail Well it was a beautiful day with a possibility of thundershowers but as luck would have it, all we had were blue skies and 30 degree temperatures. 19 bikes showed up….3 side by sides, 16 ATV’s with 21 riders in all. The ride was a leisurely one with all bush trails and hardly any dust. The long water hazard proved to be no challenge at all for these expert riders. All took it in stride. Stops were made at Finlayson Lake to enjoy the cool breeze and lunch at Camp Nine Lake under the red pine trees. We also detoured to a beautiful hardwood stand to…

  • King Ride – July 9th, 2022

The day went well with sunny blue skies and 25 C temperatures. Despite the ride being a 5 on our difficulty scale, still six ATV riders showed up for the ride. We all noticed how dry the bush was with most of the water holes being dry. On a positive side we could see the trail ahead and maneuver around all obstacles. All agreed that the trail from Mosquito Creek to the Langevin Camp was extremely challenging and definitely not passable by side by sides. There were a few incidents that brought the group to laughter and lots of razzing. We were happy to get back to the parking area…

  • Silver Lake Ride

Lead: Mike Labelle Tail: Ted Hargrave On June 25, 2022 the club ride Silver Lake occurred, we had a great turnout despite the heat as I believe this was the warmest day of the summer so far. Despite the heat the Lead/Tail provided a scenic pleasant ride, it was great to see old and new members out enjoying nature. We had lunch at the usual spot on Deschamps lake, wow sure is dry in the bush, no mud and even the 2 creek crossings which are normally up to the foot rests and beyond were barely higher than halfway up. All seemed to enjoy the ride and socializing, another great…

  • Kukagami Ride Report

Kukagami Ride 04 June 2022 Ride Lead: Art Constantineau Ride Tail: Al Giroux The first ride of the WNATV club 2022 season was a great success. We had 26 riders present, 16 ATVs, and 4 side by sides show up. We had extremely great weather, and in Art’s style we had a great ride around the Kukagami area with scheduled stops with history lessons at each stop, as well as fish species lessons by lakeside. All members appeared to be enjoying the social aspect of the event while keeping a respectful distance from each other. Once again, a riding success. Thank you to Art and Al for a great ride.…

Please note that social distancing was followed all day long. Some 40 riders showed up on 16 ATV’s and 8 side-by-sides. This was a large group considering that rain was forecasted for later in the morning.  All were enthusiastic to get going. We encountered 2 feet of water while crossing a large swampy area, but this didn’t prove to be a challenge for anyone.  All members took it in stride.  As we left Finlayson lake, a fine rain started but let up as we ate lunch…

We had a great turn out for this ride as it is quite common to just get a few riders. 9 ATVs showed up, 7 members and 2 visitors. The ride was a great mix of meandering though the forest on smooth trails to rock climbing and mud pools. All the gentleman on the ride got a bit of riding teaching from the lady on the ride as she insisted on climbing one of the hills which we all avoided, well she made it up with very little problems. In all 36 people were there of which 6 were visitors who saw our ride advertised online. The ride was a leisurely one through bush trails, no roads and no dust. We only had to cut a few trees that had blown down after scouting three weeks ago. Lunch on Finlayson Lake with a cool breeze was so enjoyable that one of the riders went in for a swim. We all got back…

Despite the ride being a 5 on our difficulty scale, we still had a favourable turnout with 9 ATV’s and 11 riders. Along the way we found the carcass of a moose, a probable victim of brain worm. Could this be the result of more deer in the area which carry the tick that causes this disease? We all noticed how dry the bush is with all the water holes along the trail being dry. On a positive side we could see…
